that says, oh, he loves teachers and last week he said obama wants to hire more teachers and i'm not for that. that suddenly he's for -- he's not for cutting taxes on the top earners in this country, on the wealthy, and, of course, his whole proposal is denying that he has a proposal that would cut taxes by $5 trillion. there's a name to that proposal. he printed it out. the analysis that was done was based on a romney proposal that now he says he doesn't know what obama is talking about. it's utterly amazing, hard to debate somebody who has totally different plans than he really has said in the past. >> does this mean the president has fulfilled his promise to get unemployment below 8% and this isn't a one-term proposition? >> you know, you can't deny the numbers. 7.8% is, in fact, lower than 8%, and that's kind of the benchmark that the republicans have laid out. i'm sure they are extremely disappointed that there are better job numbers in the united states of america because they have been trying to sabotage any efforts, every day i see it in the congress, they have been trying to

debate last week? >> it's no surprise that barack obama raised this much money. we knew they was going to raise this much money all along. in 2004, john kerry out-raised president bush, and we all know how that turned out. so i think, you know, yes, he raised a lot of money. the president, or, excuse me, governor romney has raised $12 million since wednesday. so it's been a shot in the arm for the romney campaign too. >> and that's online as well. >> it's 60% -- >> we're not talking about major donors. we're talking about people who saw his debate and liked what they saw. >> 60% of them are new donors. so i think the romney campaign is very pleased with this. and what you saw tuesday night in the debate, you took the money off the table, you had the president and governor trromney speaking unfiltered to the people, and people really liked what they heard from mitt romney. >> but some people might not consider exactly what mitt romney said as unfiltered. take a listen to what he said about cutting taxes for people during the republican primary compared to what he said on wednesday

debate performance itself. check this one out. >> apparently after last week's debate, polls show obama trailing mitt romney by one point. yeah. one point or as is also known the thing that obama failed to make during last week's debate. >> a lot of people are saying the government is cook the books. >> look i got to say if you're cooking the books 7.8% unemployment is a [ bleep ] recipe. like the radish stew of jobless numbers. >> that was jon stewart in comedy central taking on those who questioned last week's drop in unemployment. the narrative of cooking the books. we heard it over and over. well that's going to wrap things up for me. thanks for your time. see you back here tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. eastern. joining me sean spicer, ron fournier, the journal editor in teach and jimmy williams and hogan gibbly. this week's debate president obama has a great deal to lose. romney's is the most difficult position. obama's is the most dangerous. does the president here, karen, have more to lose than mitt romney? i mean, obviously the polls show that he's ahead. >> i think we're so focused on comparing it to each other. i think we need to be focused on is what kind of performance does each man need to have? i do think that the fact that -- remember, president obama was not good at debates during the last cycle. he got better throughout the course of the debates. so did mitt romney. seeing what performances are like, i think the stakes are very high for both men. that's not his problem. his problem is that he is able to have one good day, not two good days. he needs to have a solid wednesday and be solid thursday, friday. otherwise it looks like another fluke. you prepared for one performance but your campaign is in disarray. you don't have answers to questions. you can't give details to policies. but you're making big promises. that's not going to work for governor romney. even if he has a good

the democratic show better and liked president obama's remarks better than mr. romney. over the previous week we had tremendous media coverage of romney's 47% figure. that is something that was in the news, got tremendous coverage at the time that quinnipiac was in the field and a lot of other polls were in the field. >> both sides will tell you they don't pay attention to the polls, but sure enough when one side is down, they'll be fast to poo-poo them. >>> we have a new nbc/"wall street journal" poll out tonight with fascinating insights ahead of tomorrow night's debates. >>> up next, i'll talk to philadelphia mayor michael nutter about the breaking news on p.a.'s voter i.d. law being blocked. >>> governor romney is a self-proclaimed red sox fan. why did he make an investment in the yankees? that was me... the day i learned i had to start insulin for my type 2 diabetes. me... thinking my only option was the vial and syringe dad used. and me... discovering once-daily levemir® flexpen. flexpen® is prefilled. doesn't need refrigeration for up to 42 days. no drawing from a vial.

president obama didn't make much of this 47% gaffe a week ago. >> sir, why didn't the president bring up any of those things? were you watching this wondering that yourself? >> of course. i was watching it and some of the comments that i hear today make me think people were looking for entertainment instead of substance and facts. i was looking for substance and facts. i saw a president who was very calm, cool and collected. he was looking out for the interest of seniors here in the country as it related to medicare and he was somebody concerned, in my opinion, about the middle class about doing what's right in terms of going forward in terms of diversifying our resources. i know people say this morning that maybe romney was attacking and energetic and all of that sort of thing, but what i saw in the president was somebody who knew his facts, kept his cool, presented himself in a presidential way and i thought did a fine job. we have to realize there's two more of these debates to go. and i don't know that the president necessarily wanted to unload everything in debate number one. >> but

against president obama with all that has happened in the middle east over the past few weeks and months, especially in libya. nia, what do you think governor romney reveals tomorrow? does he reveal anything significant? >> well, my guess is he probably won't. we've seen mitt romney give several major foreign policy speeches, one last year down in south carolina. he gave another out in nevada. of course, he had the foreign policy trip. he's obviously trying to make headway around this libya issue, which, in fact, if you read a lot of the reports coming out about the administration's handling of this, he has a real case to press against this administration in terms of the shifting reasons that the libya thing actually happened. so i think he's really going to talk not only about american exceptionalism, but also talk about america being a leader in the world and make the case that obama has not led, not been a strong leader on iran, on the middle east, the arab spring. that's what he'll do. i think the question is whether or not he has the credibility to step into what some might s
